COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) - South Carolinaâs governor and Senate recognized a Charleston County Department of Natural Resources officer for rescuing a driver from a burning vehicle in a December crash.
A South Carolina officer helped save a driver s life in Charleston County on Monday, pulling him from a pickup truck that was ablaze.
Cpl. Griffin Allison with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources told The Post and Courier he was driving on U.S. Highway 17 near Awendaw on his way home from work when he saw a fire in the distance.Â
As he got closer, he realized a pickup truck, which had been in an accident with a dump truck, was on fire, and the driver was still inside.
A few people in the dump truck were already trying to assist the man, and Allison rushed to help them. He said the dump truck s driver managed to get the other driver out of his seat belt, and together they pulled him from the vehicle.

AWENDAW, S.C. (WCSC) - A South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officer was praised Tuesday for rescuing a driver who had been involved in a crash Monday.
LCpl. Griffin Allison was the first responder to arrive on the scene of the crash involving a pickup truck and dump truck on Highway 17 near the U.S. Post Office in Awendaw, according to SCDNR spokesman David Lucas.
The driver of the pickup truck was trapped in vehicle when it started to catch on fire, Lucas said.
