Spring is here, and with it comes festival season in Alabama. The coronavirus pandemic caused many events to cancel in 2020, but several of them are ready to return this year. Here’s the status of some popular festivals in the Birmingham area and a few biggies in nearby cities from mid-April through September.
Status: Set for April 17 at Cahaba Brewing Co., 4500 Fifth Ave. South, Building C. Event runs 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
Event features: Gumbo and other New Orleans-inspired dishes from Tasteful Touch Catering food truck, beverages, live jazz by Chuck and the Kings on main stage, live acoustic by Daniel Bowden on porch, vendors.

Talladega Superspeedway aids tornado victims
On Friday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., fans will have a chance to climb behind the wheel of their own vehicle at Talladega Superspeedway to help victims of disasters. With a $50 donation per vehicle, participants can drive around the track for two full laps with proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross Alabama Disaster Relief through Dega Gives, a donor-advised fund of the NASCAR Foundation. Early registration can be found at nascarfoundation.org/talladegagives and is highly recommended to guarantee a spot. Drives can also be purchased the day of the event. Participants behind the wheel must have a valid driver’s license, and all vehicles must have a valid license plate. Each vehicle must be equipped with enough seatbelts for all passengers.
