Illicit liquor unit in Azamgarh busted, 1 held, 2 FIRs lodged | Varanasi News

Varanasi: Continuing its drive against hooch makers and vendors, the Azamgarh police unearthed another illicit liquor manufacturing unit in Mittupur village under Pavai police station on Sunday. One person was arrested in this connection in Didarganj area. SP Azamgarh Sudhir Kumar Singh said the drive against hooch makers and traders intensified after the recent death of people after consuming spurious liquor on Ambedkarnagar-Azamgarh border, the police unearthed a unit and arrested one Ajay Kumar Yadav of Sarava in Didarganj area. Apart from 1,040 litre of spirit packed in five drums, police also recovered labels of country and foreign liquor, bottles, caps, stickers, articles of liquor manufacturing and packing and a luxury car. As many as 59 LPG cylinders of domestic category and a jeep were also recovered.

Representative image VARANASI: Four persons, including three labourers and a driver, were killed while four others were seriously injured when a speeding truck overturned after it hit a pickup van and fell into a roadside ditch in Azamgarh district after Saturday midnight. The accident occurred near Bagahidand bridge in Keshavpur forest area under Jiyanpur police station in Azamgarh. SP Azamgarh Sudhir Kumar Singh, on Sunday, said the accident occurred when the pickup van was ferrying a group of labourers from Gorakhpur to Varanasi. Three persons, including two labourers and truck driver, died on the spot. “All the injured were rushed to a local hospital, but doctors referred them to Trauma Centre of BHU in Varanasi since their condition was critical. One injured labourer was declared brought dead in Varanasi,” he added.

Smuggler arrested, 16 quintal ganja seized | Varanasi News

The ganja consignment had been procured from Odisha Varanasi: Over 16 quintal ganja and Rs 3 lakhs were recovered from a smuggler during a raid by Pavai police in Azamgarh on Saturday. The ganja consignment had been procured from Odisha. SP Azamgarh Sudhir Kumar Singh said that Pavai cops were on patrolling on under construction Lucknow-Ballia highway when they noticed a person sitting at a lonely place near Sultanpur village. When the cops approached him, he tried to escape. However, the cops foiled his bid and caught him with a country made revolver and live cartridges. The arrested person was identified as Rajman Yadav of Ambedkarnagar district. He confessed that he was waiting for the buyers with whom he had finalized a deal of selling 16.45 quintals of ganja after procuring from Odisha, police said said adding, on Yadav’s tip off the cops recovered ganja packed in 47 bags and cash Rs 3 lakhs.
