Ahmedabad: The state of Gujarat got 5.34 lakh doses of the Astra-Zeneca Covishield vaccine in two batches on January 12 and 13 from Serum Institute of India in Pune.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the foundation stone laying of the Surat metro and the second phase of the Ahmedabad metro projects by Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked an important day for the people of both cities.
Shah, who attended the foundation stone-laying ceremonies through video-conferencing, said both projects will further strengthen the urban development infrastructure of Gujarat.
He said when Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat, he had placed the vision of the state s all-round development before people and also ensured that it was achieved during his tenure.

Ahmedabad: The first phase of the city’s metro rail will be completed by August next year. This consists of the lines from APMC to Motera Stadium and Thaltej to Vastral.
In 2021 the people of the city would have 6.5 km of metro line functional, from Vastral to Apparel Park, according to the state’s Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. 40 km would be done by August 2020, according to a report in the

GANDHINAGAR: The BJP government in Gujarat has initiated the process of patenting the name of the variety of dragon fruit grown in Gujarat as ‘kamalam’, which is also the name of the state party headquarters. It means lotus the symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Addressing a press conference to announce formation of the horticulture development mission, chief minister Vijay Rupani said, “We have named the dragon fruit grown in Gujarat as kamalam. Now the variety grown in Gujarat will be known as kamalam. We are in the process of getting patent for this.”
The CM, however, clarified that there was no political angle to naming the dragon fruit variety grow in Gujarat as kamalam. When asked about the rationale behind rechristening the fruit as kamalam, the CM said, “One need not see any political angle into this. Farmers call it kamalam (lotus) fruit in Gujarat, so the government has named it kamalam.”
