Ontario is tightening pandemic restrictions for the second time in a week.
On Wednesday, Premier Doug Ford announced a state of emergency and a four-week stay-at-home order, because Ontario’s intensive-care units (ICUs) are the busiest they’ve been so far during the pandemic, thanks to a surging third wave of COVID-19 infections.
The order takes effect Thursday at 12:01 a.m.
“The reality is, despite everything we’ve done so far, the COVID-19 situation in Ontario is getting worse, as these new variants continue to spread and our hospitals are reaching capacity,” Ford said at a news conference on Wednesday.
