Sam Newby as President-designate and
Terrance Freeman as Vice President-designate with a congratulatory tweet that recalled the 15 years of shared history between Newby and Curry.
This man is a rare person in this business. We have travelled this road together since 2006. As I approach my political sunset in 2 years, I enjoy seeing Sam continue to rise. He has a bright future and I’m in for him. 15 years of history. He is special. https://t.co/ZSbGnf6w19
“As I approach my political sunset in two years, I enjoy seeing Sam continue to rise,” Curry noted.
Spring has sprung in St. Johns County, and now, in contrast to last year at this time, there’s a lot to do.
While it still feels good to engage in some exercise outside, before it gets too hot, there’s a 3K run, and for the foodies in the area, a food and wine festival. And that’s not even counting 15 days of music, opera, exhibits and more that start Saturday.
Pro Watercross National Championship Tour
On Saturday and Sunday at Vilano Beach, watercross racers will compete for more than $150,000 in prizes. Watercross racers compete on a closed-buoy course on personal watercraft, with as many as 16 racing at one time. Each race lasts an average of 10 laps, but the course, depending on the ocean, tides and water churned up by the racers, can vary from lap to lap.
Country music star Rodney Atkins will headline a fundraiser for INK!, the nonprofit education foundation of the St. Johns County School District, as part of a kick-off to a new socially-distanced concert series at Tringali Barn at Heritage Farms in St. Augustine.
The March 5 event will feature Atkins, a Tennessee-born country singer with six No. 1 hits, and launch the inaugural Concerts for a Cause series being produced by Heritage Farms and Adams Entertainment. A portion of the proceeds will go to education enrichment programs.
Donna Lueders, executive director for INK!, said in a phone interview with The Record Tuesday that the group was grateful to Chris Shee, owner of Tringali Barn at Heritage Farms, for making INK! the beneficiary of the kick-off event in his live music series.

More than 420 people participated in the eighth annual Clays for a Cause sporting clay shoot, presented by St. Johns home builder MasterCraft Builder Group, which raised $207,000 for dozens of North Florida charities.
The event, which took place Dec. 10 at Saltwaters Shooting Club in St. Augustine, was the largest to date and will support organizations such as St. Augustine Youth Services, Seamark Ranch, American Legion Post 194’s Kids Safe Zone, Reathreaded, HorsePlay Therapy Center, Alpha-Omega Miracle Home and Port in the Storm.
“Year after year, I’m blown away by the generosity and willingness to serve those in need here at home,” said MasterCraft Builder Group CEO and Founder Chris Shee. “Clays for a Cause started as a fun, end-of-year activity for my employees and a few trade partners and has turned into a community-wide event focused on community, camaraderie and charity.”
