More countries and organizations condemned Israel for attacking worshippers in Al-Aqsa mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and its evictions of Palestinians from their homes on land claimed by Jewish settlers.
Palestinians had over the past couple of weeks staged a series of sit-ins in the area and parts of occupied East Jerusalem to denounce Israel’s attempt to forcefully expel residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood to make way for Jewish settlements.
When pursuing human rights involves distortion and slander. Tue May 11, 2021 When Robert Bernstein, Aryeh Neier, and Jeri Laber founded Human Rights Watch (HRW) in 1978, they did not contemplate that the Jewish state would become its target for de-legitimization and abuse. At the time of its establishment, not long after the Helsinki Accords were signed that included the signatories from the “Iron Curtain,” the ostensible focus was to report on the abuses of human rights in Soviet bloc countries. UN Committee on Palestinian Rights alarmed at deterioration of situation in occupied territories
NEW YORK, Tuesday, May 11, 2021 (WAFA) - The Bureau, on behalf of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, yesterday expressed its deep alarm at the dramatic deterioration of the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory that includes the escalation of violence and acts of provocation and incitement, particularly by Israeli extremists in occupied East Jerusalem.
The Committee said in a statement that it is gravely concerned at the violence yesterday at Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, where over 200 Palestinian worshippers have been injured by the Israeli forces, who fired rubber-coated bullets, stun grenades and tear gas at unarmed civilians. It condemned such acts against worshippers and all acts of provocation, incitement and inflammatory rhetoric.
East Jerusalem: UN experts deplore brutal police response to protests, urge eviction threats to be lifted
GENEVA (11 May 2021) - UN human rights experts today expressed grave concerns about Israel s aggressive response to protests in East Jerusalem, and called on Israel, as the occupying power, to immediately lift its threat to evict hundreds of Palestinian households from their legally-protected homes. Re-establishing calm in Jerusalem is important, but creating the conditions for justice and equality in the City are even more important, the experts said. Neither short-term calm nor long-term peace will be accomplished as long as the national and individual rights of the City s Palestinian population are routinely abrogated.
