Higher Education Minister says DkIT exam results being withheld is unacceptable Reporter:   ); Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris has said DkIT students having their exam results withheld due to industrial action at the college is “entirely unacceptable”. The Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) Branch at Dundalk Institute of Technology – which represent lecturers and researchers – said the action has been taken due to the institute’s executive failing to honour commitments made last year, including the improvement of management bodies and progress in pursuing Technological University status. Minister Harris, who met with Dundalk Senator John McGahon and DkIT Student Union President Taidgh Kavanagh via zoom to discuss the issue of student’s exam result being withheld, said exams result should be provided as soon as possible.

TUI committed to finding solution to this years Leaving Cert - Highland Radio

  The Teachers Union of Ireland says they are committed to the talks on this year s Leaving Cert exams. It comes as the ASTI says it s going to meet with the minister for education today to discuss issues with the leaving cert, but they re not back in talks. The teachers union withdrew from discussion about the exams last evening over the calculated grades part of the twin process. Meanwhile, the TUI is warning that if they exams do go ahead in June, they need to be significantly modified. General Secretary of the TUI Joanne Irwin says they want to find a solution as soon as possible in the interest of everyone:

Special needs classes to return later this month after deal confirmed

Share this article The Government has confirmed that Special Classes will return in Secondary schools in the last week of the month. The two main secondary school teacher unions have now backed the plan, along with Fórsa which represents Special Needs assistants. Special classes in secondary schools will now return on February 22nd, the same day as they return in primary schools. Special schools are due to return tomorrow. The Education Minister Norma Foley said she was pleased to see the classes return. “These special classes support some of our most vulnerable students,” she said. “The return to in-person teaching and learning is vital to these students and I want to thank everyone who has engaged in this process to reach a solution which is aimed at meeting their needs.”
