HOLLAND On March 15, 2020, the first case of COVID-19 in Ottawa County was confirmed in a patient at Holland Hospital.
A year later, as of Friday, March 12, there have been 21,449 confirmed cases of the virus in Ottawa County 316 of those cases have been fatal.
In the U.S., more than 530,000 people have now died of the virus, which a year ago was just starting to touch the Holland community for the first time.
In late February and early March, the public health department and hospitals in Ottawa County were watching the progression of the virus, which was not yet officially declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.
