RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) More than three decades since the HIV-AIDS epidemic hit the nation, survivors report seeing similarities between the epidemic and the COVID-19 pandemic.
A Raleigh man wishing to remain anonymous referred to himself as Charles St. John lived with HIV for almost 40 years. At the age of 20-year-sold, John was first diagnosed in 1983 at the height of the HIV-AIDS epidemic. I identify as a gay white male, said John. People didn t know what was creating or causing the epidemic at the time. People were blaming: it s these people, it s these populations, communities of color, communities marginalized by socio-economic status.
