After the state government declared mucormycosis (black fungus) as a notifiable disease, the district has confirmed its 30 cases so far.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said the district had received 30 cases of black fungus so far.
He said the cases of black fungus were reported in Covid survivors/patients due to irrational use of steroids or poor oro-nasal hygiene in hospitalised patients and use of same mask for prolonged periods was also becoming a cause for mucormycosis.
“People should not indulge in self-medication and take medicine only after consulting a doctor. It is advisable to use oxygen cylinder only under expert advice,” the DC said.

Chandigarh, May 14 : Five children drowned in a pond in a village in Punjab s Ludhiana on Friday, as well as a migrant who trying to save them, police said.
The incident happened in Mangarh village, where the five children, aged between seven and 10 years, accidentally drowned to death.
The 22-year-old migrant who jumped into the pond in a futile attempt to rescue them also lost his life.
Expressing deep shock over the tragic incident, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 to the families of each of the victims.

As many as 20 persons from Ludhiana district lost their lives due to Covid today. This is the highest single-day death toll in Ludhiana since the first Covid death was reported from Ludhiana. On March 30, 2020, 42-year-old woman was the first casualty from Ludhiana. Today 792 people tested positive for Covid.
From the past few days, the number of people succumbing to the virus has increased considerably. Today 20 persons lost their life to the virus, yesterday the count was 18 and on Wednesday 15 persons had lost their lives.

LUDHIANA: Deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today informed that under the “Mission Fateh” of the Punjab government, the number of Covid-19 patients getting cured in district Ludhiana is increasing with each passing day. He said that there are 7790 active patients in the district at present.
He said that sincere efforts are being made to keep people safe from Covid-19.
He said that a total of 964 patients (792 new patients from district Ludhiana and 172 from other states/districts) have tested positive in the last 24 hours.
He further said that till date, a total of 987399 samples have been taken, out of which a report of 987065 samples have been received, of which 924527 samples were found negative while reports of 334 samples were pending. He said that now, the total number of patients related to Ludhiana is 54586, while 7952 patients belong to other districts
