Cell phones save the day, light up high school graduation after power outage

AUSTIN (KTVT) It’s a story about the night that the lights went out in Texas but this time it was the audience who came to the rescue of a high school graduation ceremony.
The class of 2021 at Anderson High School in Austin will never forget the ceremony, part of which was spent in the dark. The ceremony began at 8 p.m. and less than 30 minutes later severe thunderstorms in the area knocked out power to the sports complex.
Leaders with the district decided the ceremony would go on as attendees used cell phone flashlights to provide ambient lighting. Many students got their diplomas in the dark, and some students delivered speeches by megaphone since the sound system wasn’t available.
Internet sleuths identified Austin resident Joseph Barnes in a variety of ways after he entered the U.S. Capitol in Washington on Jan. 6 and said, This is our country, while making his way inside, according to investigators.
First, a London-based news organization captured Barnes and others on video. Then someone alerted the FBI, claiming to recognize Barnes in the video. Another person also contacted the FBI, identifying Barnes and telling agents that they had gone to Anderson High School in Austin together.
Then, a third person informed FBI agents that Barnes worked for commercial real estate company JLL and provided the company s webpage, which listed Barnes as the vice president. He has since lost his job with that company.
