Governor Greg Abbott’s border wall isn’t big or beautiful, like the one that President Trump promises. In fact, it isn’t even a wall. But bits of it are rising, after a fashion.
In recent weeks, 1.2 miles of chain-link fence has been erected on a spit of land, choked with carrizo cane, just west of Del Rio part of the governor’s effort to finish the job Trump started and build a physical barrier along the Texas-Mexico border. PANAMA CITY Bay County commissioners recently agreed to stabilize more than 2 miles of dirt road in the Fountain area.
The county has accepted Anderson Columbia Co. s bid for more than $1.3 million to stabilize 2.3 miles of dirt roads on South Silver Lake Road and Silver Lake Road. The county received a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation for the project.
According to Bay County Commissioner Doug Moore, 1 mile of dirt road will be paved and another 1.3 miles of paved road will be cleaned up.
Moore ran his campaign for county commissioner in District 4 on the importance of paving dirt roads in the rural areas of the county. Since he was elected, the county has set up a couple of projects in his district to stabilize a few miles of dirt roads.
Dirt road stabilization projects continue around Bay County Sam Martello
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Road construction projects continue to move forward around Bay County.
In Fountain, one mile of South Silver Lake Road and 1.3 miles of Silver Lake Road are next on the list.
At Tuesday morning’s Bay County Commission meeting, the commission awarded the Dirt Road Stabilization Project to Anderson Columbia Co. Inc.
With funds from the half-cent sales tax, a grant from FDOT, and other grants, this roughly $1.4 million project is another step in bettering local communities.
“In the county total you’ve got about 190 miles of public dirt roads,” said Bay County Commissioner Doug Moore. “It’s important that this is one more mile that we’re able to do.”
