RELIGION: A little grace please!

A few years ago I was helping with our Christian Experience Weekend retreat. It’s a three-day retreat similar to Tres Dios or Cursillo. At the last possible moment, our cook backed out and was unable to help. So I volunteered to cook for the group. What was I thinking? The only reason my house has a kitchen is that it came with the garage! The opening day of this retreat, a good friend I had conveyed my misgivings to showed up with a neon green sign. It said: “Grace and Mercy Please!” I needed it! She also had one that read: “Bless this Mess.” I guess she was equally worried, but I mustered through and didn’t kill anyone . . . that I know of.

Compassionate Evangelism: Being A Daily Witness for Christ

As Christians, we are called to testify with compassion every day. Alan Greene Image: Canva As followers of Jesus, we come together in His name and worship Him because He alone is worthy of worship. We believe God has rescued us from darkness and brought us in to the marvelous light of His love. He is worthy of worship because of what He has done for us. His message is simple, by surrendering to Jesus, (not a religion) confessing and repenting of our sin, accepting His sacrifice of shed blood on the cross, and trusting in Him alone for salvation, we become a Child of God and are given eternal life. We should then want to become more like Him and seek a life of holiness and obedience that is pleasing to Him. He is worthy of worship and we should long for others to know Him. He suffered and shed His blood on a cross to take on the sin of the world and the punishment we deserved. This great news is worthy of sharing with every person on earth, and is what God intends for

Citing timing, SCOTUS declines to allow in-person learning to resume in Kentucky

Supreme Court of the United States. Credit: Shutterstock CNA Staff, Dec 18, 2020 / 05:01 pm (CNA).- The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a Kentucky Christian school’s plea to reopen for in-person learning, upholding a health order from the governor that barred in-person K-12 education in most areas until January. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s Nov. 18 executive order, which applied to both public and private schools, closed elementary, middle, and high schools in the state and ordered them to transition to virtual learning beginning Nov. 23. The order allowed for elementary schools in “red” zones counties with 25 or more new coronavirus cases a day to reopen as long as they are following state public health guidance. Middle and high schools were not allowed to resume in person learning before Jan. 4.

Apostolic Letter Patris Corde : St Joseph, figure for our time

12/12/2020 at 5:34 PM Posted by Kevin Edward White By Fr. Paul Ariole, Catholic Herald, December 12, 2020 “Do not fear for I am with you…” (Isaiah 41:10); “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ” (1 Cor. 11:1). These words of the scriptures succinctly summarize the words of Jesus, through the mouth of his servant to the world that suffers from innumerable threats, a world in need of whispering hope. Exactly 342 days into a world tragedy whose first cluster was recorded in Wuhan, and 63 days after the publication of the Papal Encyclical “Fratelli Tutti”, the Holy Father addresses the world with a message of hope; he calls for a recognition of those who continue to “live in the shadows” – ordinary people whose works are often overlooked yet contribute greatly to the welfare of all. The Holy Father takes us through the ingredients that are key to our continued survival as we live through a time of dark clouds and shattered dreams. This I consider to be timely
