Temporary parking in downtown Plymouth now open for all businesses

Having a hard time finding a parking spot to run in and grab a to-go order in downtown Plymouth? A recent change to some temporary parking may have you covered. Several parking spots originally connected to 15-minute parking for specific businesses have now been converted for use by anyone needing to run into a local business quickly. With restaurant capacity increased to 50% earlier this spring, Downtown Development Authority Director Tony Bruscato said it became clear there was a need for the in-and-out parking to open up for more shops as more people come downtown. Couple that with the loss of some on-street parking from extended patios for restaurants and it can be tough to park if customers need to run in for a quick pickup.

Proposed Westland hookah lounge takes step toward approval

The first business planned at the redeveloped shopping center at Ann Arbor Trail and Middlebelt took a step forward earlier this month. The Westland Planning Commission recommended approval Feb. 2 for a special land use for a hookah lounge planned in the former Burger King building at the shopping center on the southeast corner of the intersection. The lounge would be just one of two businesses in the building: a takeout restaurant would occupy part of the building in addition to the hookah lounge. It s expected some customers at the smoking lounge could use the restaurant next door and carry in food from there, as the lounge cannot operate as a restaurant on its own due to Michigan s indoor smoking ban that took effect more than a decade ago.
