2021 Porsche 911 GT3 review: International drive

PDK is even better than before Naturally aspirated engine note is spectacular Cons Changes are incremental rather than large Is this the last of the breed? - shares In an automotive world seemingly hell-bent on electrification, the fourth-generation Porsche 911 GT3 is a true rarity. Rare, not only because at $369,700 it is well out of financial reach of most admirers. But because after 12 years and three generations as the track day upstart in the 911 line-up, it continues to stick its middle finger up at the very regulations designed to outlaw it, and holding firm to its original race car roots with a naturally aspirated combustion engine.

2021 Porsche 911 GT3 992 now on sale in Australia

Porsche Australia has confirmed local details and prices of the new 992 series 2021 911 GT3, with deliveries expected to arrive in the second half of this year. For the Australian market, Porsche is packaging the GT3 with metallic paint, a lift system for the front axle, tinted LED headlights with PDLS Plus, automatic dimming mirrors and rain sensors, ParkAssist, reversing camera, digital radio, tyre sealant and an electric air compressor. Powered by an insanely high-revving 4.0-litre, naturally aspirated flat-six powertrain based on Porsche’s GT3 race car engine, for the road car it produces 375kW at 8400rpm, tamed by an electronic limiter that would otherwise see the engine spin past the 9000rpm cut-off. The unit produces 470Nm of torque, which is a 10Nm increase over the previous model.

And that was just the start before real-world testing began. After much fanfare and anticipation, the all-new Porsche 911 GT3 was recently revealed to us, and it sounds like a fantastic machine. Even for those who don t appreciate the performance of such a brilliant vehicle, the GT3 offers something to talk about. Those who do appreciate its abilities have already started speculating on what to expect from the recently-spotted GT3 RS. That car will be even better on track than the regular GT3, and we ve already seen how impressive the base GT3 is in the hands of a skilled driver. But as much as we applaud drivers who are able to push cars like this to the limit, it s the engineers responsible for building the car that truly deserve our praise. Porsche now shines a light on their efforts, all of which are impressive.
