Lower Angel: Covid means no one can see our Christmas display

HIS pub’s vibrant decorations have brought cheer to Warrington every Christmas and have raised almost £9,000 for charity over the years. But no one can see Andy Wharfe’s fairytale-inspired display at The Lower Angel this year because of the coronavirus restrictions. Andy, who has run the Buttermarket Street real ale venue with his partner Andrew Sutton for 12 years, cannot open his pub in Warrington’s tier 2 because it does not serve food. He has decided to keep the decorations up anyway – behind closed doors – because he has been working on them since March and invited the Warrington Guardian to take pictures so the effort did not entirely go to waste.
