It seems that people have been using their extra time at home to care for an animal. According to data from the RSPCA, interest in adopting pets on their website grew 68% during lockdown (between March 23 and December 31). Their fostering page also saw a staggering 244 per cent increase and the number of views to these pages dedicated to rehoming dogs surged by 87%. The hampers were handed to grateful foodbank volunteers by staff from Birchwood business X-Press Legal Services. The property search company, which provides reports to solicitors and conveyancers, has kindly donated to a number of local and national charities of late to bring some festive cheer at the end of a very tough year. The company donated a total of £3,000 to charities including The Tim Parry Jonathon Ball Peace Foundation, Warrington Animal Welfare and Children’s Adventure Farm Trust.

Lower Angel: Covid means no one can see our Christmas display

HIS pub’s vibrant decorations have brought cheer to Warrington every Christmas and have raised almost £9,000 for charity over the years. But no one can see Andy Wharfe’s fairytale-inspired display at The Lower Angel this year because of the coronavirus restrictions. Andy, who has run the Buttermarket Street real ale venue with his partner Andrew Sutton for 12 years, cannot open his pub in Warrington’s tier 2 because it does not serve food. He has decided to keep the decorations up anyway – behind closed doors – because he has been working on them since March and invited the Warrington Guardian to take pictures so the effort did not entirely go to waste.
