Webcast Moving to hybrid cloud should open up a world of possibilities for transforming your technology infrastructure and your organization as a whole.
But many organizations are unable to fully exploit the possibilities of the cloud, because their underlying data remains locked into complex legacy databases.
That said, you may be pleased to hear that organisations have not just overcome the challenge of modernising their data infrastructure for the cloud era but shared their stories at the Nutanix Database Summit.

Prioritising workloads in a hyper-converged infrastructure migration
A cost-effective approach to combining virtualisation and unified management probably means deploying it workload by workload, experts suggest

A hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) should be greater than the sum of its parts. Analysts note that migrating workload by workload can suit most organisations – so operators can base deployment decisions on the peculiarities of each workload, aiming for end-to-end management, visibility, resilience and integration.
Todd Traver, vice-president for resiliency at the Uptime Institute, says an organisation that is ready to make the move to HCI – as most will want to – can start by selecting an initial digestible chunk and move on from there. However, significant preparation and a view of the route ahead across all applications is needed for success.
Hyper-converged infrastructure: Why software-defined everything might not work for all datacentres
Choosing the right converged infrastructure in the first instance can pivot on a trade-off between security and agility requirements

While all datacentres have become in essence defined by their software, going for a fully fledged, software-defined hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) will not always be the right course for every operator.
Not all need maximum abstraction and, for those that do, there can be critical barriers to achieving a true HCI-based environment.
Ross Warnock, director at datacentre infrastructure provider and consultancy EfficiencyIT, says the essential trade-off to consider is likely to be between security and agility.
