The Dominion lawsuit and a similar defamation claim brought in February by another election company, Smartmatic, have been widely viewed as test cases in a growing legal effort to battle disinformation in the news media. And it is another byproduct of former President Donald J. Trump’s baseless attempts to undermine President Biden’s clear victory.

The ones who just last week basically accused the county of committing a crime by deleting voter files. “This is not personal, it never should be personal,” Fann said on Tuesday, during a bizarre televised public meeting which no member of the public was allowed to attend. “I’m so disappointed and saddened at the Board of Supervisors yesterday, some of the hurtful comments that were made … This is not personal. This is about our jobs as elections officials. It is our jobs that we have to answer to our constituents, to the voters, to the taxpayers.”
