Hospital staff trained in basics of firefighting Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Fire officers imparting training on firefighting tactics to employees of private hospitals in Srikakulam on Tuesday.   Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department on Tuesday organised a training programme for doctors, nurses and staff of private hospitals in taking up rescue measures quickly in case of a fire outbreak at their hospitals, including in COVID-19 isolation wards. Speaking at a training programme organised at KIMS Hospital, District Fire Officer Chintada Krupavaram said that the State government was giving top priority to the safety of COVID-19 patients in the backdrop of fire accidents at a few places in the country.

Inspection of major industries completed, says official District Fire Safety Officer Chintada Krupavaram has asked all the 38 major industries to accord a top priority to maintenance of the fire safety equipment and their constant monitoring to prevent mishaps. Citing the industrial mishaps owing to the poor maintenance of safety equipment during the closure of factories during the COVID-induced lockdown last year, he said the factory managements must ensure the functioning of fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, fire sprinklers and fire hydrants among others. “Inspection of all major industries including pharmaceutical companies were completed last week. A few companies were found to have failed in meeting the norms and standards prescribed by the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response and Fire Safety Department. We have issued notices to them and submit a report explaining the steps taken to ensure absolute safety on the respective premises,” Mr. Krupavaram told

The National Fire Service Day is observed every year on April 14th, in memory of the 71 brave fire personnel who lost their lives fighting the fire that broke out on the Freighter SS Fort Stikine at the Victoria Dock in the then Bombay Port on April 14, 1944. The Fire department officers and the staff in Hyderabad, Telangana, paid tributes and remembered those fire personnel who lost their lives fighting the fire as part of their duty on that day.
