JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A special prosecutor says no charges will be brought against Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller after he failed to report a traffic accident to police last month.
Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West issued the ruling this afternoon.
West was brought in to examine the Jacksonville police investigation into the February 9th accident after Onslow County D.A. Ernie Lee recused himself from the case.
The district attorney in Cumberland County completed his review of an investigation into Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller s single-car accident at the beginning of February and has ruled that no charges will come as a result.
On Feb. 9, Miller was in a single-car accident when his county-issued 2019 Dodge Durango hit a fire hydrant. Miller was later confirmed by media to have been on the way to or leaving an Onslow County Women s Republican meeting.
The Daily News previously reported information gathered from an interview with Miller on Feb. 19 where the sheriff said he was going to the meeting sometime after dark, cut a corner a little too short and damaged his county-issued vehicle.
