MP for the Parish of St. Peter's, Asot Michael, rose to the defense of an extended state of emergency for Antigua and Barbuda, giving a harsh lesson in constitutional law to opponents of the measure.

It was one of the funnier moments in recent American politics. We’re talking about that date in 2004 when presidential candidate, John Kerry, attempted to give an explanation for his
‘no’ vote on a bill calling for a further appropriation of $87B to support the Iraq war effort. Said the befuddled Kerry,
“I actually did vote for the $87B before I voted against it.”As you can imagine his explanation gave rise to much mirth and merriment in political circles, and the good John Kerry was branded a flip-flopper – a man with a convoluted mind who was at war with his own principles and himself. Remember, this was the same man who had voted in favour of the Iraq war. How could he now vote against providing funding for it? How could he now vote to de-fang the war machine? How could he now vote to leave the troops in the field without the requisite tools to effectively prosecute the war?

This is perhaps an early sign that elections are in the offing. Of course, for world-weary and frustrated Antiguans and Barbudans, the next election cannot come soon enough. The people are sorely disappointed, and much disillusionment has set in. This is an administration that was granted a second term with so much promise, but it has produced so precious little.
As you can imagine, the temptation will be there to pin the blame for the shocking underperformance of this administration on the pandemic, but that argument will not suffice. The regime was already running on fumes prior to Covid-19, and with the very first puff from the virus, it was down for the count. Since that time, it has only gone downhill – pensioners are crying out for their monies, as are so many ent

A few days before the second presidential debate in 2016,
The WASHINGTON POST published a video and article featuring a rather disgusting conversation about women between Donald Trump and television host, Billy Bush. In that infamous
‘old boys talk,’ Trump described his interest in a married woman, then waxed lewd about kissing another woman that he and Bush were about to meet. Said the Donald,
“I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything . . .Grab em by the P . You can do anything.” Sigh! Talk about Neanderthal man! In this supposed modern age of enlightenment, here was a presidential candidate, in the most advanced and enlightened country in the world, proposing what amounted to an assault, a sexual assault of a woman.
