Apple Valley man accused of attempting to kidnap young girl at Civic Center Park

Authorities arrested an Apple Valley man after they said he attempted to touch two girls, grabbed a 9-year-old girl at a park before letting her go.
Jose Abel Orellana, 60, was booked on suspicion of kidnapping and is being held in county jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, records show.
A deputy responded to Civic Center Park in Apple Valley at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a “subject attempting to touch two female juveniles,” the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.
Teen driver arrested after allegedly leading deputy on high-speed chase in Apple Valley
Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old boy following a high-speed pursuit in Apple Valley earlier this week.
The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station reported Thursday that Deputy Stuart Cullum observed a Cadillac SLS speeding eastbound on Bear Valley Road at 11:07 p.m. Wednesday.
Cullum attempted to stop the vehicle before a short chase ensued. The driver, later identified as the 17-year-old boy whose name was not released, allegedly drove recklessly through a residential area, reaching speeds of over 90 mph and crossing over double yellow lines, the report said.
Apple Valley woman taken to trauma center after being struck by vehicle on Deep Creek Road

Apple Valley authorities reported Thursday that a 29-year-old woman was taken to a trauma center after being struck by a Honda Civic driven by a 69-year-old woman.
The Apple Sheriff’s Station reported that at approximately 7:46 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to the collision on Deep Creek Road near Monte Vista Road.
Sheriff s spokeswoman Jackie Alban told the Daily Press that Monte Vista Road may be Monte Vista Lane.
Deputies learned the pedestrian had been walking from the east to the west side of Deep Creek Road when she was struck by the 2016 Civic as it traveled northbound on the road, the report said.

Sheriff s officials announced Monday the open enrollment period for contracted towing services with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Local sheriff’s stations will accept towing provider applications from March 1 to 31 for the 2021-22 fiscal year. No late applications will be taken.
Towing companies whose applications are accepted will undergo vehicle and facility inspections in May. Companies that pass both inspections will begin working with the Sheriff’s Department on July 1.

Apple Valley man arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse

Authorities say they believe a 68-year-old Apple Valley man who was arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse might have other victims.
San Bernardino County Sheriff s Department deputies arrested George Mantooth on Jan. 14, a day after serving a search warrant at his home. If charged by prosecutors, Mantooth is expected to be arraigned in a Victorville courtroom Tuesday, booking records show.
Sheriff s officials said the investigation began on Jan. 12 after deputies at the Apple Valley Sheriff s Station looked into allegations of a girl being sexually molested.
Investigators identified an additional victim and allege that Mantooth raped her continuously from the age of 13 to adulthood.
