Florida Tech makes plans to give Foosaner art to museum in Ocala

Florida Tech is finalizing the transfer of the permanent collections from the Foosaner Art Museum and the Funk Center for Textile Arts to the Appleton Museum of Art at the College of Central Florida in Ocala. As this process is still in progress and details are being finalized, we cannot offer any additional comments at this time, said Adam Lowenstein, a spokesman for the university. Florida Tech acquired the Foosaner, located in Melbourne s Eau Gallie Arts District, in July 2011, bolstered by a $1 million gift from the Foosaner Foundation and Dee Negroni-Hendrick, and agreed to run it for at least 10 years. University officials say they spent about $1.8 million bringing facilities up to code and more than $7 million to keep the museum open.

Anderson: Don t push Bright Futures into the Dark Ages

Anderson: Don t push Bright Futures into the Dark Ages R. Bruce Anderson State Sen. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, has apparently spent his quarantine dreaming up weird and dangerous things to inflict upon the staid population of Florida. In my mind’s eye, I see him paralytically bored. He’s just read some Facebook posts by a more focused friend, about how they spent their last lockdown week re-reading Fowles’s “Magus” or Lord Byron’s “Stanzas for Music,” or maybe tripping through an online walking tour of the Louvre. He grows increasingly irritated because the best he can offer is an old post about some cooking show he saw about grinding a better steak burger. He snaps his fingers, decides on a course of direct action and calls in his legislative assistant (via Zoom, of course) and tells her to “get busy” because “we’re going to put a halt to subsidizing all this smarty-pants nonsense once and for all.
