Imagine a world where people with disabilities didn t have to talk about their disabilities. A world where they re just people.
That s the big takeaway from Best Summer Ever, (available now on DVD and on-demand) a musical rom-com in the same vein as Grease, High School Musical and Footloose that features a mixed cast of people with and without disabilities.
The feel-good film stars Shannon DeVido ( Difficult People, Insatiable ) and Rickey Wilson, Jr. as its romantic leads, Sage and Tony. The pair meet at a summer dance camp before going their separate ways, only to end up at the same high school where their worlds collide in a chaotic but ultimately cathartic fashion. And of course, songs help tell the story.

Heat, Film 4, 11.25pm Michael Mann’s sprawling, Los Angeles-set crime flick deserves its reputation as a classic, though only just: its glossy, of-its-time feel was perfect for 1995 but a quarter of a century on it’s hard not to fix it with a wouldn’t-get-away-with-that-now label. It barely passes the so-called Bechdel Test – named for its instigator, cult graphic novelist Alison Bechdel, it asks the question: does any work have two women talking to each other about something other than a man? – which is ironic given the acting talent lined up on the distaff side. Ashley Judd, Amy Brenneman, noted Shakespearean actress Diane Venora and a 14-year-old Natalie Portman all feature. What do they do? Not much. Mostly they hang on the arm and the every word of stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Val Kilmer, except for Portman, who plays a troubled schoolgirl. That aside, Heat is nothing if not slick and its long running time and pleasingly complex plot certainly gives it the fe

Left-wing Hollywood stars broke out in jubilation Thursday after President Joe Biden announced four executive orders on gun control. As Breitbart News reported, Biden put forward executive actions in four areas including new restrictions on “ghost guns,” a push for red flag laws, the re-categorization of AR-15 pistols, and DOJ-led research into gun trafficking.
Biden also declared that “no amendment to the Constitution is absolute,” in what seemed like a reference to the Second Amendment.
Stars erupted in joy despite Biden’s orders falling well short of his campaign promises. Julianne Moore called it a “major win for gun safety,” adding that Biden is on his way to keeping his “promise to be the strongest gun safety president in American history. ”
