Lewisville Lake Park Closed to Vehicles Due to Rising Water

The campgrounds, fishing barge, and Lake Park Golf Course remain open for public use, and pedestrians are still allowed to walk around the park and fish off the shore. The disc golf course is partially opened. The city said visitors who come to Lake Park can park their vehicles in any lot, but the spots closest to the park entrance are located in the north lot of Bob Wiseman Soccer Complex on Turtle Trail, between Sandy Beach Road and Lake Park Road. There also will be some parking spaces along Sandy Beach Road. Visitors are reminded that parking may be limited due to scheduled sporting events.

The county has until the end of April to finish the work, and may end up adding even more sand if necessary, by then. The second part of the Sector 3 project will be between Wabasso Beach and Turtle Trail and is to begin in November, Charest said. Overall, the county plans to spend up to $12 million to restore the beaches and dunes over the next few years.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Repairs to hurricane-damaged dunes at Wabasso Beach Park are expected to continue this month, closing the park while sand is replenished.  The repairs are part of a $12 million beach renourishment project to replenish sand along a 3.7-mile stretch between Wabasso Beach and the Seaview subdivision. Work began in January at Golden Sands Beach Park, just north of Wabasso.  Because of high tides and the amount of sand needed for the Wabasso Beach portion of the project, the contractor decided to bring sand from the north side of Golden Sands, county spokeswoman Kathleen Keenan said. Golden Sands, which closed in January, is to remain inaccessible to the public through April while work is done.
