In fact, for healthcare workers, the pressure keeps mounting. India has a shortage of healthcare staff, with a ratio of 1:40. When dealing with a pandemic, this gap becomes overwhelming.

ACT in 2020 enabled 54 Indian startups to build solutions for fighting COVID-19. It has now expanded its focus to build solutions for healthcare, environment, education and women’s participation in the workforce. In March 2020, the Indian startup ecosystem - founders and VCs came together to launch ACT, a Rs 100 crore grant to power startups building and deploying solutions to combat COVID-19. ACT focused on three main objectives - i) to provide grants to tech companies building COVID-19-related solutions; ii) to connect businesses to local, state and national governments, and NGOs for fighting COVID-19; and iii) help businesses scale up.

2020 marks the 10
th anniversary of the Anjani Mashelkar Inclusive Innovation Awards set up by reputed scientist RA Mashelkar in memory of his mother who always persuaded him to use science and technology for the benefit of the needy.
This milestone year’s winners are ‘Savemom’ by JioVio Healthcare (Non-COVID category) and ‘Dozee’ by Turtle Shell Technologies (COVID category)- two fantastic innovations with the potential to totally transform Indian healthcare.

“I have always loved solving puzzles and problems. I believe that coding everyday gives me the agility to look at problems and find solutions. The best part about coding is the independence it gives you. Something as complex as WhatsApp was built by 18 developers. In fact,
most big and successful products start with limited resources and the grit to code,” he says.
But that doesn’t mean that Gaurav doesn’t let his team code. He does his bit while his team that works on building the core product every single day.
