In person visitation to OC juvenile facilities to resume

The Orange County Probation Department, in accordance with State, County, and Juvenile Court COVID-19 safety precautions, will resume in person visiting at Orange County Juvenile Hall, Youth Leadership Academy and Youth Guidance Center on May 31, 2021. The Probation Department temporarily suspended visiting in March 2020 based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and in consideration of the Probation Department’s COVID-19 prevention efforts. Since that time visitation has occurred via telephone and virtual conferencing. The Probation Department recognizes the importance of in-person contact to our youth and their families and look forward to resuming these visits in a manner that will prioritize the safety of our staff, the youth and their families.

The arrest of Samuel Chavez for violation of his probationary terms as well as felony drug possession and endangering the welfare of a child was affected by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department. Authorities seized over 22 pounds of marijuana, edible Gummies, THC cannabis concentrate oils, over 7.8 grams of crack cocaine and cash. In Orange County, Young Adult Court offers a path to clear felony convictions

The Orange County Young Adult Court, a collaborative program for first-time nonviolent felony offenders between the ages of 18 and 23, graduated three of its initial 25 participants with tearful goodbyes as Orange County Superior Court Judge Maria Hernandez reduced or dismissed their convictions. Hernandez said she wished everyone who had a hand in the cases could be present in person, but current restrictions forbid it as COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Orange County. The first graduate of the program finished in July.
