ORANGE COUNTY, CA Hundreds of critics of the county s pandemic response showed up at Tuesday s Board of Supervisors meeting, the appropriate forum for debate and discussion, according to Orange County CEO Frank Kim.
Recently, anti-vaccination and anti-mask activists have also taken to holding protests at the homes of county officials.
Last year, the former Orange County Public Health Officer Dr. Nichole Quick resigned amid protests at her home. Last week, the activists showed up at the home of the current county public health officer, Dr. Clayton Chau, who is also the Orange County Health Care Agency director.
The Orange County Probation Department, in accordance with State, County, and Juvenile Court COVID-19 safety precautions, will resume in person visiting at Orange County Juvenile Hall, Youth Leadership Academy and Youth Guidance Center on May 31, 2021.
The Probation Department temporarily suspended visiting in March 2020 based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and in consideration of the Probation Department’s COVID-19 prevention efforts. Since that time visitation has occurred via telephone and virtual conferencing.
The Probation Department recognizes the importance of in-person contact to our youth and their families and look forward to resuming these visits in a manner that will prioritize the safety of our staff, the youth and their families.

On Monday, Orange County Sheriff Carl E. DuBois announced the arrest of a City of Newburgh man for felony drug possession, endangering the welfare of a child and a probation violation.
On Thursday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the Orange County Probation Department, jointly, conducted a Probation Home Visit in the City of Newburgh.
As a result of the visit, Samuel Chavez, 26, was found in violation of his probationary terms, officials say.
Over 22 pounds of marijuana, edible Gummies, THC cannabis concentrate oils and over 7.8 grams of crack cocaine as well as money were found inside Chavez s home, police say. All the items were seized by police.

NEWBURGH – An Orange County Probation Department home visit in the City of Newburgh on February 11 resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old man and the seizure of a large amount of drugs.
The arrest of Samuel Chavez for violation of his probationary terms as well as felony drug possession and endangering the welfare of a child was affected by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department.
Authorities seized over 22 pounds of marijuana, edible Gummies, THC cannabis concentrate oils, over 7.8 grams of crack cocaine and cash.
Chavez was also charged with intent to sell drugs and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.,

For three young men, Friday marked the beginning of a new chapter of their lives this one free from the felonies they were convicted of.
The Orange County Young Adult Court, a collaborative program for first-time nonviolent felony offenders between the ages of 18 and 23, graduated three of its initial 25 participants with tearful goodbyes as Orange County Superior Court Judge Maria Hernandez reduced or dismissed their convictions.
Hernandez said she wished everyone who had a hand in the cases could be present in person, but current restrictions forbid it as COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Orange County.
The first graduate of the program finished in July.
