A former U.S. prosecutor has announced his bid to challenge current Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) Todd Spitzer during the next election.
Former federal prosecutor Pete Hardin, who served as a Marine Corps officer, accused Spitzer during a March 16 press conference of using the office “for his own personal and political game.”
“I’m gravely concerned that our current district attorney fights more for headlines and TV appearances, than he does for real smart justice,” Hardin said. “His pursuit of the headline has been at the cost of the pursuit of justice.”

Peter Hardin, a former U.S. Marine who served in Afghanistan, announced Tuesday he will challenge incumbent Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer in next year s election. Hardin, 42, says he would seek to clean up what he sees as a scandal-ridden office, which has been hit with accusations of running a secret DNA database. He also describes himself as a progressive prosecutor.
I spoke with Hardin recently about his candidacy. I m not a politician, he said, contrasting himself with Spitzer, who was a state assemblyman and member of the OC Board of Supervisors before being elected DA three years ago. Hardin is a Democrat and Spitzer a Republican, although the office is non-partisan.

SANTA ANA (CNS) - An Orange County prosecutor has filed a legal claim with the county joining three others who previously filed similar claims alleging she was harassed by a senior prosecutor who has since resigned and witnessed another attorney in the office harass a 16-year-old intern, documents obtained today show.
The legal claim, which is dated Feb. 16, also alleges that Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer released an unredacted version of a legal claim made by three other women in order to “control the public narrative of this case.
A legal claim is a necessary precursor to a lawsuit against a government agency. The county could either reach a settlement on the claim or deny it, triggering a lawsuit.
