Elisabeth Krause, an assistant professor in the Department of Astronomy and Department of Physics, are two of 128 researchers from the United States and Canada to be awarded 2021 Sloan Research Fellowships.
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation annually awards two-year $75,000 fellowships to early-career faculty with doctoral or equivalent degree in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, Earth system science, economics, molecular biology, neuroscience or a related field. The fellowships seek to stimulate fundamental research by pre-tenure scientists with outstanding potential, according to the foundation. A University of Wyoming scientist whose work springs from the needs of Wyoming forage producers and another whose focus is increasing sheep producer profitability have received outstanding research awards from UW’s Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station (WAES).
Anowar Islam, a professor in the Department of Plant Sciences, received the Outstanding Research Award. Whit Stewart, an assistant professor in the Department of Animal Science, received the Early Career Research Award.
WAES is the research branch of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Islam joined UW in 2008 as an assistant professor and has received over $3.8 million in research funding.

Earl Levison (Student Affairs) were recently selected as recipients of the 2021 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Award presented by the FSU Division of Student Affairs and the Center for Leadership and Social Change. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Distinguished Service Award was established in 1986 to honor a faculty member, administrator or staff member for their outstanding service in keeping with the principles and ideals of Dr. King. The honor also comes with a $1,000 stipend.
