Imam welcomes Korean investment of $700,000 under KOPIA

Daily Times August 4, 2021 Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam on Tuesday welcomed Korea’s investment of $700,000 in the development of agriculture sector in Pakistan through Korea Program on International Agriculture (KOPIA) and said that under the initiative technologies will be imported and customized to the local environments. Talking to a delegation headed by Hur Taewoong, Administrator Rural Development Administration (RDA), Korea, who called on the minister, Imam said that through KOPIA Pakistan Center, bilateral cooperation will expand in the field of agriculture machinery, agricultural inputs and protected agriculture development. The meeting was attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Pakistan Sur Sangpyo along with Director Korea Program on International Agriculture (KOPIA) Pakistan Centre Dr. Cho Gyoungrae.

Addressing a seminar, the minister said that Pakistan was one of the least contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions causing climate change yet worst affected by their underlying impacts due to its higher vulnerability caused by geographical location.

‘Govt pushing mango exports to prop up economy’ July 11, 2021 MULTAN: Federal Minister for Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam on Saturday said efforts were being made to improve production and export of mango for strengthening the country s economy. “Mango production stands restricted at 1.77 million ton from the last many years,” said Imam addressing the participants of a mango festival organised by his ministry. He said mango export was recorded at 110,000 tons in the year 2019 adding that it was increased to 140,000 tons in 2020 despite the Covid-19. The minister said mango export was about five to seven percent only of the total production which should be increased.
