The signature-gathering effort to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom has been steadily gaining steam over the past month.
As of last week, over 1.3 million Californians have already signed on the line to oust the sitting Governor.
If the necessary 1.49 million signatures are collected, it will trigger a jungle primary this November where voters would be asked two questions: Do they want to recall Newsom, Yes or No? And, if more than 50% answer “Yes”; Who should replace him?
As CalMatters’ Lauren Rosenhall pointed out last week: “This is where things get strange.”
“There’s no limit on the number of candidates who can run to replace an official on a recall ballot. And whoever gets the most votes wins even without a majority.”
