Case Counts, Hospitalizations Still High, But Spokane Health Officer Sees Glimmers Of Hope

Spokane County experienced one of its lowest daily coronavirus counts in weeks on Wednesday, 131 cases. That puts the county at an even 22,000 positive tests for the pandemic. Interim Health Officer Frank Velazquez says it’s one small positive sign in a Covid horizon that’s beginning to look a bit brighter. Wednesday’s daily Covid case count was released a few hours after Dr. Frank Velazquez told reporters that the Thanksgiving coronavirus surge isn’t as bad as feared. “A lot of people, I can’t say most, but a lot of people have really taken the precautions that were recommended for the Thanksgiving holiday and that is just anecdotal, he said.

Spokane Health Officials Helping Local Prisons, Jails With Covid Outbreaks

Credit Doug Nadvornick/SPR Spokane public health officials say they’re providing help to state and county agencies that are battling Covid outbreaks in Spokane area corrections facilities. The Spokane Regional Health District on Tuesday reported 238 cases at the Airway Heights Corrections Facility. That was about a third of the record 692 new coronavirus cases reported. Interim Health Officer Frank Velazquez says his office is doing what it can to help contain that. “We have provided resources for testing, both for inmates as well as staff. We have provided them with guidance on frequency of testing because there are multiple scenarios. We have also provided guidance in terms of quarantine and isolation. I do know that the buildings have been separated between quarantine and isolation, he said.
