Prime Minister Narendra Modi holding the meeting to review Covid-19 situation
PM Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting today on the Covid-related situation and vaccination status in the country. Emphasising the need for localised containment strategies, the Prime Minister said healthcare resources should be utilised to focus on door to door testing in rural areas.
States with high positivity rates in districts must report Covid-19 numbers transparently, PM Modi said during the virtual meeting. Doing so will not show adversely on their efforts , he added.
The Prime Minister directed officials to chalk out a plan for the distribution of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) to rural areas. A statement from the PMO said PM Modi also stressed the need for necessary training for healthcare workers in dealing with medical devices.

12,547 new cases in Uttar Pradesh; 2.5 lakh samples tested in last 24 hours
UP reported 12,547 new confirmed cases of infection on May 15, along with another 28,404 recoveries. A total of 2.56 lakh samples were tested for infection in the state in the last 24 hours.
The state of Uttar Pradesh now has 1,77,643 active cases.

Goa govt refuses to take responsibility for deaths of Covid patients at GMCH
In a press conference on Saturday, Goa CM Pramod Sawant said the deaths of Covid-19 patients at the state-run GMCH did not occur due to a lack of medical oxygen.

Bihar reports 7,336 new cases; positivity rate below 7%
The state of Bihar reported 7,336 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, along with 73 more deaths. Bihar now has 82,486 active cases of infection.
While the positivity rate in the state stands at 6.66 per cent, the recovery rate is 86.63 per cent.

22,517 new cases in Andhra Pradesh; 98 more succumb to Covid-19
Out of the 89,535 samples sent for testing in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours, 22,517 have tested positive for Covid-19. The state also recorded 98 more Covid deaths and another 18,739 recoveries on Saturday.
