Manish Sisodia has claimed that Bharat Biotech declined to provide Covaxin
Covaxin centres in Delhi: Delhi s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday claimed that Hyderabad-based biotechnology company, Bharat Biotech, has declined to provide Covid-19 vaccine to the national capital. Bharat Biotech is manufacturing Covaxin that is currently being administered to the people in the country along with Covishield. Pune-bases Serum Institute of India is manufacturing Covishield the local version of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. We had demanded 1.34 cr doses, 67 lakhs each of Covaxin and Covishield. Covaxin (Bharat Biotech) wrote to us yesterday that they can t provide. They wrote we are making dispatches as per directives of concerned government officials . Obvious that these are central government officials, Sisodia said while addressing the media.

Maharashtra, the country s financial capital, Delhi, the national capital, and Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state, were the worst Covid-hit regions but have shown a continuous decline in the daily COVID-19 cases, said the Health Ministry on Tuesday.
It also mentioned that daily cases were on a decline in Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Telangana, Chandigarh, Ladakh, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The national positivity rate stands at 21 per cent, said the Ministry.
The Union government is in discussion with states to contain the spread of COVID-19, said Health Ministry spokesperson Lav Agarwal.
BJP for all-party meet to discuss strategy
The BJP and the Congress on Monday hit out at the Delhi government for failing to tackle the rising COVID-19 cases in the Capital saying that its healthcare structure had once again fallen apart due to the virus.
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had always claimed that everything was under control and Delhi was fully prepared to deal with any eventuality. However, the surge in the COVID-19 infection cases in the city has exposed the false claims of the government. It has also brought into open the pathetic condition of the healthcare services and hospitals.

The vaccine shortage across the states is adding up to the woes of Covid-19 second wave. Maharashtra State Health Ministry confirmed that 26 vaccination centres in Mumbai were shut due to lack of vaccine doses and the ministry said that it is waiting for more vaccine doses from the Centre. Several other states are also on the verge of vaccine shortage. This comes at the juncture where the second wave is at its peak.
Delhi Health Minister Satyender Jain said that the national capital’s Covid-19 vaccine stock is left for only 4 to 5 days. He demanded more vaccine stock from the Centre.

NEW DELHI: Delhi reported over 5,500 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the sharpest daily spike this year, with Health Minister Satyender Jain cautioning that given the pace of the spread of the infection, the cases might breach the city s single-day record registered in November last year.
The highest single-day spike in Delhi till date 8,593 cases was reported on November 11, while on November 19, the city recorded 131 COVID-19 deaths, the highest single-day fatality count till date.
