For SOPs implementation…: Centre notifies assistance by army to provinces

April 26, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Amid sharp rise in deaths and infections, the Ministry of Interior on Sunday issued a notification stating that Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Islamabad Capital Territory will (in accordance with their needs) seek the help of the Pakistan Army to strictly implement the coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs). The orders, however, do not apply to Sindh. Minister for Interior Shaikh Rashid Ahmad made the announcement via a statement and said that the decision to seek the assistance of the armed forces was taken during a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) for Coronavirus on Friday, April 23, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The Federal Ministry for Interior on Sunday issued an official notification stating that the government will seek the help of the Pakistan Army in implementing the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures  (SOPs) in view of the surging number of cases across the country.  The decision to seek the help of the armed forces was taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday, April 23, during a meeting of the  National Coordination Committee for Coronavirus. According to the notification, with the exception of Sindh, all parts of the country, including Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Islamabad Capital Territory will seek the assistance of the army to strictly implement the coronavirus SOPs. The provinces, however, will call the army in accordance with their needs, the notification said.

LAHORE: The coronavirus is getting out of control in Punjab as a record 104 patients died during the last 24 hours, the most deadliest day since March last year when the virus had hit the province. It was the highest figure of Covid deaths reported in a day so far, according to the official figures.
