U.K. Virus ‘Out of Control’; Cuomo Warns of Spread: Virus Update Bloomberg 12/20/2020

More than 16 million Britons are required to stay at home as a full lockdown came into force Sunday in London and southeast England, part of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s effort to contain an “out of control” mutation of the coronavirus. The U.K. reported the most Covid-19 infections since the start of the pandemic.
European countries responded by suspending travel links. The U.S. doesn’t need to take that step for now, a member of the White House virus task force said, but Governor Andrew Cuomo expressed concern that untested passengers from the U.K. could be carrying the mutation to New York.

Israel begins coronavirus vaccine drive
Israelis aged 60 and over to receive vaccines immediately, tenants of retirement and care facilities will be inoculated in the course of the week; other COVID-19 risk groups scheduled to get jab next, contingent upon the availability of vaccines

Israel launched its coronavirus vaccine drive on Sunday with medical personnel in the country s major hospitals being first in line to get the shot.

The vaccinations were broadcast live to encourage the Israeli public to get vaccinated, the Prime Minister s Office said in a statement.

Israel’s Health Minister Yuli Edelstein got his coronavirus vaccination shot Saturday night along with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and told reporters and the television cameras that the date, December 19th, was doubly significant to him personally.
Edelstein and Netanyahu had just launched the start of Israel’s ambitious campaign to get the entire 9.2 million population vaccinated as soon as possible in order to bring the coronavirus epidemic to an end.
