Ministry virus experts say they weren t involved in decision to end restrictions

(Miriam Alster/FLASH90) Members of the Health Ministry’s national forum for dealing with the coronavirus outbreak said Monday that no discussions had been held with experts ahead of Health Minister Yuli Edelstein’s announcement that almost all remaining virus restrictions will be lifted at the beginning of next month. According to the Kan public broadcaster, one unnamed member of the forum expressed great surprise at the decision and raised questions as to the motives behind it. Others told the outlet that they had only heard about the decision from news reports and suspected there were political motives behind the move.

Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said he would not request an extension of regulations that expire on that date. People will still be required to wear face masks indoors until deilberations on the matter over the next two weeks, and travel to and from Israel will still be limited, the Health Ministry said. Access to public places will no longer be restricted to people who can prove they have been vaccinated or have recovered from the coronavirus.
