Italy to impose tighter restrictions for Christmas

The controversial measure that would see movements between municipalities banned on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day will likely be substituted by a stricter one, which will see any movement even inside the municipalities banned, thus putting all Italy under ‘red zone’ restrictions. The government is now debating when to enforce such a measure. While part of the coalition, led by Health Minister Roberto Speranza, wants to ban any movement from 24 December to 6 January, others, including Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, support a compromise solution that will see the total lockdown applied from 24 to 27 December and from 31 December to 3 January.
