Panaji (Goa) [India], May 11 (ANI): Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday admitted that there is a delay in supplying oxygen to hospitals in Goa amid the surge in COVID-19 cases but ensured that the process will be streamlined from today. There is a delay in oxygen supply but we have availability, can t hold doctors responsible for delay. For mismanagement, administration needs to be streamlined. I have monitored it personally, it will be streamlined by evening, said CM Pramod Sawant briefly to ANI who visited Goa Medical College today. The hospital requires 400 jumbo cylinders but now provision would be made to get 600 cylinders, the chief minister said.
A debate has broken out over the safety and efficacy of the drug Ivermectin after Goa’s Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that all adults (18 and above) be given the medicine as prophylaxis to bring down mortality amid a surge in Covid cases. Scientists and doctors, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), have advised against the use of Ivermectin for Covid. Soumya Swaminathan, chief scientist, WHO, said, “Safety and efficacy are important when using any drug for a new indication. Panaji, May 10 : As Goa continues to top the country s Covid positivity rate chart, the state government on Monday cleared a new Covid treatment protocol which recommends all residents above the age of 18 to take five tablets of the ivermectin drug, in order to prevent the steep and sometimes fatal viral fever, which accompanies a Covid-19 infection.
Speaking to reporters here, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, the ivermectin drug would be made available at all health centres in the state and should be taken by all residents, irrespective of whether they have Covid-19 symptoms or otherwise.
