DAVAO CITY – Local tourists may not be able to spend their holidays in the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) which is famous for its white-sand beaches in Davao del Norte province.
The local government of IGACOS announced on Thursday that the island will prohibit tourism or leisure activities from December 18 until January 4.
“Only the transport of essential goods and services for work in offices or industries permitted to operate under IATF Guidelines shall be allowed for movement,” the city’s Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) COVID-19 said in a statement.
The prohibition was contained in Executive Order (EO) No. 269 which places the city under the general community quarantine (GCQ).

In a public advisory, the local government unit (LGU) launched its Oplan Karoling Hotline, where citizens can report to law enforcement authorities of any organized groups sighted to be conducting caroling in any residential communities within the municipality. The hotline numbers are 09072085978 and 09677039787.
The Santo Tomas government is strictly enforcing the “no caroling” policy to avoid mass gatherings as the entire country is still under a public health crisis brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
