This was confirmed by Davao del Norte governor Edwin Jubahib in a video message on Sunday.
“Daghan sa atong mga kaigsoonan ang nag-antos sa komplikasyon sa COVID, ug gani daghan kanila ang anaa sa ilang mga panimalay sa karon, nagpaabot nga dawaton sa atong mga hospital kay puno na gyud ang mga balay tambalanan, public man o private (A lot of our brothers and sisters are suffering from COVID-19 complications and a lot of them are staying at home as of now, awaiting hospital admission because both public and private medical centers are now full),” Jubahib said.
Davao del Norte was placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) from June 10 to June 30, 2021, following a surge in COVID-19 cases.
May 30, 2021 ISLAND Garden City of Samal (Igacos) Mayor Al David Uy temporarily suspended operation of all resorts, including beach or inland, in the city beginning June 1 until 14, 2021 due to the surge in Covid-19 cases in the city and its neighboring local government units (LGUs).
Uy issued Executive Order (EO) No. 291 on Sunday, May 30, wherein the mayor also ordered the suspension of private gatherings and parties in private resorts and establishments.
Exempted in the order are those Department of Tourism (DOT) Star-rated Resorts , which may continue to operate as certified by DOT to have passed its Staycation Program.
The mayor also ordered the suspension of all pre-bookings until further notice and advice. All confirmed bookings and approved tourist QR Codes are also canceled.

DAVAO CITY – The city government of the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) said that the cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection has increased prompting the local government to limit the operational capacity of resorts and other establishments.
City Mayor Al David Uy signed on Tuesday, April 13 Executive Order (EO) 284 which amended EO 277. Among the amendments include the limitation of the operational capacity of resort facilities and establishments from 75% to 60%.
The local government also included the residents of Samal Island to pre-book with the resort facilities prior to their entry.
“It was observed that from the time the tourism industry was opened, COVID-19 infection in the City had increased, which may be attributed to the influx of tourists and the free movement of the people conducting various eco-tourism activities,” the new EO reads.

The local government of the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) on Friday, Feb. 5, received a total of 2,000 antigen test kits and a new antigen machine for swab testing for the detection of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In a statement, the local government said the donations were given by the Ulticon Builders, Inc. on Friday at the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) Operations Center in Samal District.
“The diagnostic kits are said to be faster and reliable antigen kits as it can detect the presence of COVID-19 infection within 15 minutes with a 96.7 effectivity rate,” it said.
