LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) The mask mandate is no more.
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) has decided to let the mandate expire Friday, May 21 after the
COVID-19 Risk Dial drops to ‘green,’ almost exactly 11 months since the mandate was first implemented.
“This wasn’t something we just decided in the last few days,” commented Health Director Pat Lopez. “We don’t want to go backward, but we want to go forward and I, I feel really compelled to the community- we told them what it was going to take to get us in ‘green’ and what it was going to take to remove the mask mandate and I want to honor that, and that’s where we are due to the communities hard work.”

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) The first case of the U.K. or B.1.1.7, COVID-19 variant has been identified in Lancaster County. The individual is a man in his 20’s.
This is the second COVID variant found in Lancaster County, with B.1.429, or the California variant found late February.
Current data suggests that the COVID-19 vaccines do protect against variants, but the research is still ongoing.
“Variants can spread more easily and quickly, and they can lead to more cases of COVID-19. We want to continue to take preventive actions to control the spread of COVID-19 and its variants in our community, which include getting the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it’s available to you,” said Health Director Pat Lopez.
