Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 6) The Department of Health on Saturday confirmed an increase in the number of COVID-19 patients being admitted to hospitals, with some facilities reporting a doubling and even tripling of cases.
“We have been receiving reports
na mayroon talagang pagtaas ng mga numero ng mga pasyente sa mga ospital (that there’s really an increase in the number of patients in hospitals) for COVID-19 cases,” Department of Health Spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire said during the government’s Laging Handa media briefing.
Vergeire said the department has called for a meeting with the heads of certain hospitals to discuss the spike in admissions.

Updated March 4, 2021 10:19pm A total of 4.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines developed by AstraZeneca will arrive in the country batches before the end of May, World Health Organization (WHO) country representative Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe said on Thursday night. “The consignment received today will be followed by up to 4.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, scheduled to arrive before the end of May in batches,” Abeyasinghe said in his speech. According to WHO official, the vaccines received from the COVAX facility will protect up to 20 percent of Filipinos. “In addition to other vaccines stated to be delivered to the Philippines through the COVAX vaccines delivered through COVAX will protect up 20 percent of the population in the Philippines during this year,” he said.
DAVAO CITY, March 5 (PIA) - Health Secretary Francisco Duque III allayed fears that the AstraZeneca vaccines is not effective against the South African variant of the Covid-19 Virus.
He stressed the data is not enough to conclude that the AstraZeneca vaccine has a low efficacy rate against any variant.
Duque said the AstraZeneca vaccine has 100 percent efficacy rate in preventing severe to critical cases of the COVID-19 infection.
“We are after a vaccine that will guarantee lesser severe and critical cases which ensure lesser hospitalization, at kung walang maoospital, walang mamamatay,” he pointed out.
Duque said based on experience, those who died from the COVID-19 infection where from severe to critical cases.
