The National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday allowed the reopening of schools in districts with less than 5% coronavirus positivity ratio.
The development came after NCOC chief Asad Umar presided over a meeting, with Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan, provincial chief secretaries and other members in attendance via video link.
According to a press release issued after the meeting:
Educational institutes in districts with less than five per cent positivity rate will be reopened from May 24.

ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday decided to allow opening of educational institutions in districts with less than five percent COVID-19 positivity ratio, outdoor dining by restaurants and tourism sector under stringent SOPs from May 24.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar co-chaired a crucial meeting of the NCOC here on Wednesday along with Lt General Hamooduz Zaman Khan.
The meeting was also attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan and the chief secretaries of the federating units.
It was decided that outdoor dining activity at restaurants would be allowed till 23:59pm while takeaway services would continue round the clock. The NCOC also announced opening of all educational institutions across the country by June 7. “There will be staggered opening of the education sector from June 7,” the NCOC said.

Rawalpindi : Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Wednesday said that 80 per cent construction work of Mother and Child Hospital (M&CH) has been completed while remaining hopefully would be completed within six months.
Talking to the media during a visit along with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Faisal Sultan to inspect the ongoing work at the site, he said the 400-bed hospital will be the first state-of-the-art facility of its kind in the country to have modern cancer treatment centre.
The minister said two city mega projects include Nullah Leh and Mother and Child hospital would be completed soon.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported over 4,000 coronavirus cases in 13 days after 4,207 new infections emerged on Thursday, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 890, 391 since the pandemic hit the country last year.
Last time, Pakistan reported over 4,000 cases on May 17 when 4,109 infections were registered.
