ISLAMABAD: For the first half of the year i.e., from January to June 2021, Pakistan has and expects to receive 19.82 million doses of vaccines offering protection against COVID-19. The fact that 91 percent of these doses are purchased clearly indicates that the country is not dependent on donations. In totality, deals have already been signed for the procurement of over 30 million doses.
The PM’s Special Assistant on Health Dr Faisal Sultan shared these data Monday in a televised briefing arranged to highlight the current status of vaccine procurement and roll-out in Pakistan, as well as to share global supply issues and matters related to local vaccine production. Dr. Faisal said, the government initiated conversation with vaccine manufacturers and GAVI in July 2020 well before any vaccine had been fully developed and approved. Intermediate examinations across Pakistan would be held after June 15, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood announced Tuesday.
The coronavirus situation is getting better in the country due to vaccinations and other steps taken by the government, the minister said, while speaking in
Geo News programme Capital Talk . I am very hopeful, he said, about successfully holding examinations.
The minister said currently only A2 (A Level second year) examinations are being held across the country, but several people are voicing their demands to be awarded school assessed grades.

ISLAMABAD: After a continuous rise in Covid-19 cases for almost three months, a downward trend was finally witnessed on Monday as both the positivity ratio and number of cases declined.
However, experts believe that Pakistan has been facing the situation similar to that of last Ramazan and the number of cases may increase again if people violated the coronavirus-related standard operating procedures (SOPs) as they did during the Eid holidays last year.

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Tuesday decided to form monitoring teams at federal, provincial, and district levels to ensure the implementation of coronavirus SOPs from May 8-16.
