But with students having been separated from school support systems for so long, a new council is tasked with examining how the state can help students recover. The new Student Recovery Advisory Council, comprised of 29 members with a variety of educational, medical and labor backgrounds, will make recommendations on how to help students recover. Those recommendations will include addressing students’ academic, physical and mental well-being.

9 & 10 News February 2, 2021 The vaccine rollout has hit a couple of stumbling blocks in northern Michigan, with Munson Healthcare cancelling new appointments due to a shortage – and another community cancelling a clinic altogether. Dr. James Whelan is the Medical Director for the Munson Clinically Integrated Network. He shared the Munson update as part of the organization’s weekly briefing to the community. “As of February 1 st we’ve administered 22,080 vaccines. And that 64.3% of Munson Healthcare workers are now vaccinated.” Munson Healthcare says they’re making progress. After Thanksgiving there were more than 80 patients within the Munson system. Now – just 23 inpatients – who will be able to have visitors. Munson Healthcare Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Dianne Michalek says, “We are now allowing Covid-19-positive patients one visitor for one hour per day. 9 & 10 News Demand definitely exceeds supply right now. - Lisa Peacock January 26, 2021 One of the questions we’ve been getting lately in our newsroom is about people who are so-called “double-booking” in an effort to get the vaccine more quickly. 9&10 got the latest advice from health officials – and the update on the vaccine rollout, during the Munson Healthcare weekly update. Some things haven’t changed: there’s still not enough vaccine to meet the demand. But the Grand Traverse Health Department is seeing an increase in the pace of vaccine distribution. Grand Traverse Co. Health Dept. Health Officer Wendy Hirschenberger says, “Last week we administered 2,150 vaccines…. This week we are proceeding with delivering 3,200 doses.”
