COLOMBO (News1st): A protest was staged on Tuesday based on 11 demands including the stoppage of inefficient recruitments in the health sector.
The protest was staged by representatives of the Joint Health Workers Union by storming into the health ministry demanding a meeting with the secretary.
Ven. Tampitiye Sugathananda Thero, the general secretary of the Joint Health Workers Union, said the meeting was “unsuccessful”.

Frontline health professionals waging the war against the deadly coronavirus in Cross River State will now own their own homes.
The Health workers estate would be bungalows of two or three rooms.
Governor Ben Ayade, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr Tina Agbor, remarked that the development was timely as it would save health workers the stress and burden associated with paying rent, amidst other expenses.
“This development will go a long way to ease health workers from the stress of struggling to pay rents, send their kids to school and other challenges. The comfort of having a house of your own and the joy that comes with it is the reason Sen Ben Ayade has vowed to see this project reach completion giving every necessary support as a government”, the SSG said.
Half salary: Ondo nurses chase out union leaders, disrupt meeting

A State Executive Committee, SEC, meeting of the Ondo State chapter of Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, ended abruptly, yesterday, as nurses chased away their union leaders over payment of 50 per cent salary by the state government to its workforce.
Efforts by the aggrieved nurses to make their leaders declare a strike action over the issue, however, failed.
The union leaders had called the meeting to discuss issues of the attack on three nurses at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo and the 50 per cent half salary paid to state workers.
