Reps mull 2% consolidated revenue fund for healthcare

Wed Jul 14 2021 The House of Representatives is working towards amending the National Health Act to recommend an increase of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund from the 1% stipulated by the Act to 2% of the Consolidated Revenue Fund. Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila disclosed this in Abuja during the 44th and 45th annual general meeting and scientific conference of the West African College of Physicians. Represented by the chairman of the House Committee on Healthcare Services, Yusuf Sununu, Gbajabiamila said this would improve access to healthcare services for Nigerians, and the country’s health indices. The Minister of State for Health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, listed the factors contributing to Nigeria’s poor health indices sd including inadequate human resources for health, non-optimal supply chain management, poor data management as well as limited funding to scale up coverage for evidence-based interventions.

Agency, PharmAccess launch IsDB initiative Twenty-one of the 24 Kwara State House of Assembly members have debunked the claim by Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, at the weekend, that he sponsored their elections in 2019. At a press briefing in Ilorin, yesterday, the lawmakers led by the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu (Ilesha-Gwanara Constituency), asked the minister to publicly mention any of the members he allegedly helped financial before, during or after the polls. Mohammed, who leads a splinter group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara, opened a parallel secretariat of the party in Ilorin at the weekend, and drew a battle line between his faction and the one controlled by Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazak.
